NICHOLAS(4) 1773-1851

Born in Baltimore County, Maryland, the last child of John and Francis Hail(e) Chenoweth, Nicholas married his second cousin once removed, Ruth Haile [Hale], the daughter of Richard and Ann Haile. Richard's father was a first cousin to Nicholas' mother, Frances, both of whom were grandchildren of Nicholas Haile II and Frances Garrett. This represents the third Haile [Hale] tie to the line Chenoweth within John(3) s/o Richard(2). The location and time of this marriage is not known, but Nicholas was in his early twenties and had probably just moved to Tennessee with his mother and several siblings. In 1795 Nicholas acquired 49 acres on Boones Creek in Washington Co. All of their nine children would be born in Tennessee. Nicholas lived about 78 years and Ruth survived him. Many of the descendants of Nicholas and Ruth spell their name Chenowth. Nicholas made his will in Washington Co., TN on Jan 6, 1850. It was probated in November 1851 and his son, Nicholas Hale Chenoweth, was the executor.
