Some Comments: Because of the long standing mistakes in Chenoweth genealogy stemming from Cora Hiatt's 1925 and before, there are a number of embedded mistakes in some DAR descendant lineage. I have not attempted to get these corrected. There are several ways of getting an ancestor listed. The more commonly known way is service during the war. As an alternative, an ancestor may be shown to be a "Patriot", that is having lent his support to the cause in some manner. Taking an oath of fidelity is considered qualification for eligibility. The oaths of fidelity taken in Maryland (per Arthur Keith): Baltimore Co: : Arthur Chinworth, Sr., Arthur Chenoweth, son of Richard, Thomas Chinworth, Thomas Chenoweth (twice), Samuel Chinworth, Richard Chenoweth, and William Chenoweth. In 1778 in Montgomery Co., MD, we find Richard Chinoth, Thomas Chinoth, and Thomas Chinorsath (sic.)

This list would make Thomas(2) and Arthur(2) eligible as well as his son Samuel. Richard's son Arthur is listed. It is not certain who the others in Baltimore are. There were 2 Richard Chenoweths and 3 William Chenoweths thought to be living in Baltimore at the time. There were also 3 Thomas Chenoweths who lived in Baltimore, but Thomas the son of John is given to have gone to Botetort Co., VA in 1778. Assuming his absence, this would leave both Thomas the son of Arthur and Thomas the son of Richard. Richard and Thomas, Jr. sons of Thomas(2) in Montgomery Co. also had Revolutionary War service.

So far I have not run across a similar list for oaths in Virginia. Given that all the lines of ARTHUR(2), THOMAS(2), and both WILLIAM(3) and RICHARD(3) of the lines of JOHN(2) are covered by either oath or service, well over half the present day family qualifies. But even if the link is not directly Chenoweth, it is just as likely that the early spousal ties within these early colonial families will lead to a linkage as well. I am looking for descendants in the DAR or SAR to take charge of their listed ancestors as a contact point for other cousins in that line to contact about DAR or SAR membership.
