Green District, Randolph Co., WV [Pages 229A-238D] 177 Families are in the Census Enumeration of the Green District, 36 of the are Chenoweth families [1 by Chenoweth Surname] and another 28 households have a present or future in-law relationship to the family. John Chenoweth. This district includes Leading Creek, Gilman and Kerens, just northeast of present day Elkins [not founded until 1889]. It was in this area that John Chenoweth first purchased land in 1795, before relocating five years later closer to the town of Beverly.
