ARTHUR(4) 1784-1858
Arthur was born in Jefferson Co., KY on May 03, 1784, just after his parents, Arthur Chenoweth and Elspa Lawrence had moved there from Hampshire Co., VA (now WV). Arthur married at the age of 25 to Elizabeth Edmonson in Nelson Co., KY on September 11, 1809. The Harris book misidentifies Arthur, placing him back in Baltimore. In reality, that Arthur was the son of Richard Chenoweth and Elinor Askew. Arthur was also known as Havilah and is so identified in the 1850 Census in the unknown sections of the Harris Book. The proper line and family of Arthur was researched by Jonathan Paul, a descendant. Like his father, Arthur went to Bartholomew Co., IN in the 1820s. Arthur and Elizabeth are given to have had 8 children, the last 2 born in Indiana. It is believed that Elizabeth Edmonson died and Arthur remarried to Jackealina Wall on November 24, 1836 in Clinton Co., IN. This marriage is incorrectly identified in the Harris book. They had 3 apparent children. She, too, apparently died before the 1850 Census. The son of this union, William Newton Chenoweth [Harris U636] is likely the Newton found in the 1850 Census with an incorrectly stated age. The two assumed daughters are living with two sisters of Arthur in Clinton Co. Arthur died on December 02, 1858 in Starke Co., IN at age 74.
