EDWARD PUGH(6) 1824-1863
Born in Randolph Co., Virginia (now WV), Edward, third son and fourth child of Jehu and Eleanor 'Nelley' Skidmore Chenoweth, married, at the age of 25, Martha Jane, the daughter of William Salisbury and Lizie Crouch. Edward grew up to be one of the leading citizens of Beverly. During the Civil War, Edward, with his father-in-law William Salisbury and ten other citizens of the county, were taken as a civilian hostages by Union forces and sent to Fort Delaware prison near Philadelphia, PA. Both Edward and William died there during their internment. Martha was left to raise the family. In the 1870s, the children relocated to Preston Co., WV. They then went to Garrett Co., MD before returning to Randolph Co., WV before 1900. Martha is buried in the IOOF, Midland cemetery, south of Elkins, Randolph Co., WV.
