ABRAHAM C.(4) 1808-1878

Abraham was the 11th child of Abraham Chenoweth and Rachel Kerr. Born in the area of Ross Co., OH that would soon form into Pike Co., Abraham would lived in this vicinity for his entire life of 70 years. Of the 7 sons of Abraham and Rachel, Abraham and his brother Gideon, were the only sons to remain in Pike Co. Gideon, however, died at 34 without children, so it was Abraham's family that was left to continue the Chenoweth presence in Pike County into the twentieth century. He married there, Irene Jemima Blackstone, her parents unknown. Abraham was 27 at the time and Jemima just 20. To this union would be born 13 children all in Pike Co. Abraham died May 24, 1878 in Pike Co. leaving a will. Jemima was the executor and when she died 21 years later, she altered Abraham's original terms to leave their property to the three daughters that never married. Abraham was originally buried in the old Chenoweth cemetery where his parents were interned. He was later re-interned to be buried with his wife Jemima in the Evergreen Union cemetery located in Waverly, OH. The little that is known of Abraham's descendants today. The male name died out very quickly, ending the 100 plus year Chenoweth name in this area, and daughter lines continued in the Pike County area into the 1900s.
