RICHARD(3) OF TIPPECANOE CO., IN 1758-1847
Born in Frederick County, Virginia, the fourth son and seventh child of Thomas Chenoweth and Mary Prickett, Richard served in the Revolutionary War. Before 1786, in his late twenties, Richard married Martha Smith, parents unknown. This may have been in Allegany County, Maryland where his first children were born. Like several of his brothers, Richard then moved to Mason County, Kentucky and then again to Pike County Ohio, just prior to the turn of the century. Richard and Martha lived in this Ohio area for about 35 years, having three more children, for a total of 11, and raising them to adulthood. In the 1830, Richard, his wife and two sons and their families relocated to the Twelve Mile Prarrie, east of Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. It was here that they both most likely died, as they are both buried there in the Salem cemetery. Richard lived to the age of 89, outliving his wife by two years. His son, Arthur, administered his will there. Several of the sons-in-laws given for Richard's children in Harris book are wrong. Moreover the Ephraim Bowen given as his grandson by his son Arthur is not the Ephraim Bowen who went to Morgan County, IN. That Ephraim should be a grandson of Absolum(3) in the line of John. Some present day descendants of Richard and Martha still live in Tippecanoe County as most of Richard's children, except for the one son Richard who went to Missouri, lived, married and died in this are of Indiana.
