JOSEPH(3) ca 1745-1785
Joseph died at about age 40, shortly before his father, on September 22, 1785. He is believed to be the oldest of the four sons of William and Ann and was born on their land on Mill Creek in Frederick Co., VA. He married Sinah Hayes, the daughter of John Hayes, a next door neighbor to William(2). Joseph's brother, Absolom, married Sinah's sister. Joseph is listed in two Berkeley Co. deeds during the period 1778 to 1785 as leasing land from first Jacob Rush and second David Lucas. In his will, Joseph mentioned two children, his son, Joseph, Jr. and a daughter called Newly, whose name was Nelly. Sinah, Joseph's widow remarried to Dr. Evan Banes and had 4 children by him. The family including Nelly and Joseph, Jr. went to Warren Co., OH before 1800. A few years later they would be joined there by the families of William, Jr. Sinah and Dr. Banes moved on to Champaign Co., OH. Both Nelly and Joseph, Jr. married in Warren Co., OH. Nelly, Eleanor, married James Mason and had one known son; Joseph, Jr. married to Nancy Ann James, the daughter of William James and Jane Williams. Joseph, Jr. would live his entire adult life there. Joseph, Jr. and Nancy are buried in the Middlerun cemetery, Greene Co., OH.
